Open Letter To Marvel May 13, 2011

OK, I have a confession to make. I love the superhero movies. I really do. What’s not to love about someone saving the world/universe with lots of explosions, weird-ass costumes, and idiot dialog. I do however have a problem.

What the fuck is up with ruining a great movie with warm fuzzy feelings about the JBTs from SHIELD?

What is up with this? Since when do superhero’s need government assistance? That’s why they are super heroes and not GI Joe. I have to say that I did enjoy watching a Norse god kick their asses until the attempt at a mental group hug at the end.

Stop ruining a good time with, “Woo Hoo the government is full of helpful guys”, “We’re the good guys”, and all that stupid bullshit! “We’re on the same side”!? WTF?? No they aren’t, the government is on it’s own side! I’m calling shenanigans! Even if this is just some heavy handed attempt at explaining the basis of the Justice League when you get around to making that, I’m still not interested! I won’t be watching Justice League by the way, even if you put in more explosions and worse dialog.

I want my superhero saving the universe, explosions, cheesy costumes, dumb dialog, and if you can work it in good looking guys without their shirts on. This has worked for a long time! If I have to give something up, you can write better dialog.

I would like to take this moment to offer my profuse thanks to Kirsten for the recommendation of the 2D glasses. I had the opportunity to try them out during a current screening of Thor. I must say, the glasses are AWESOME! They work great!

As an aside, the 3D is getting better too. I was able to watch an entire trailer, and I figured out how to get them to work, zone out. If I actively focus, it’s all over. I also got the spawn to admit that 2D is better (hehehe).

If anyone cares, the movie rocked. And as with all wonderful effects driven movies, the dialog was rather banal.

Star Trek – My Two Cents May 9, 2009

OK, it’s cheesy, but I used to be a fan of Star Trek, until the last couple of movies. When I couldn’t get past the politics of the script writers, and the action sucked, I stopped watching. Most of the NG stuff was like that. The last movie bugged me when I watched it, and when LP watched it a few days ago on DVD I almost threw-up in my mouth a little. The pro-socialism, look how civilized and cultured we are because of it, prime directive bullshit was too much.

So, I was understandably nervous going to see the new one, which I have to say…………………….totally rocked!! I even forgot that the beginning made me sniffly (which if you know me – I don’t like sniffly unless the rest of the movie is awesome). No politics, no babbling about how great communism is; just action, humor, and a great movie. Bad guys were even shot without the stun on!

Definately not your parents Star Trek, thankfully.
