With the election year well into “full swing” I’m throwing my two cents in on the election. I’m not going to vote. I will go in and vote for or against referendums and what have you, but I’m not voting for a person. I do not consider it “un-American” , unpatriotic, foolish, idiotic, or whatever other word someone is currently throwing at me to attempt to guilt me into voting.
This opinion has caused some unrest in those I discuss it with for some reason. I get a lot of “but you need to let your voice be heard”, “people died for your right to vote”, and my favorite, “vote for the lesser of the two evils because the other person will (fill in the blank)”. So, I feel the need to express why I do not vote, since they refuse to actually listen when I explain why I don’t.
An itemized listing………
1. It really doesn’t matter who wins, I feel generally they are all bad (keep reading for some of the reasons).
2. I refuse to elect someone who want to be in charge of me. Anyone who wants to be my ruler is suspect.
3. I refuse to allow these people to be important to me.
4. I believe that voting is a form of force. Anyone who is “in charge” has their wishes (laws) enforced at gun point, period. This is force. So, carried out to it’s logical conclusion, electing someone who will force their wishes on a constituency is supporting and condoning this use of force.
5. Voting for someone supports and condones the idea that democracy is a good way to operate. Democracy is the current favorite way to disenfranchise and take rights away from 49% of the population because 51% think it is a good idea. Democracy further uses force to support the choices made by the majority.
6. I refuse to encourage them with my one hatch mark.
This is probably not a full listing of the reasons I will not be participating the the bread-and-circuses show this year, but it does represent the major points.
